Schecter Bass – A Frankenstein Like Bass

Schecter Guitar Reasearch is the full company name and making great sounding guitars and basses is their game. It all started back in 1976 when David Schecter opened his guitar repair shop in California. He supplied every type of replacement part that a guitar or bass needed. In fact he soon realized that he had enough replacement parts to start his own line of awesome guitars. He would take all of the best parts of each major guitar brand and like a mad scientist, create a Frankenstein like guitar that was unique, played great and sounded even better.
Schecter Guitar Research has had it’s share of ups and downs over the years. It went from limited custom guitars in California to mass production in Texas and then back to it’s roots in California making a limited number of custom guitars.
With over eighteen current bass styles available, Schecter has every style of bass covered. Here is just a small sampling of some of the most popular ones.
The Radien Deluxe. Deluxe does not even begin to describe the awesome sound and punch that this line of bass guitars brings to life. With over six models to choose from you will find a Radien that fits just about anyone.
The Omen Extreme is another hugely popular model whose name does not even begin to capture the beauty and amazing sound that this bass has. Three different models help to fill this line of bass guitars.
If you are looking for a bass that has lots of low end, nice clear highs and can fit just about anyone’s budget, then do yourself a favor and check out Schecter Bass Guitars.

Bass Fishing Tournament – One of the Best Entertainments in Game Fishing

What is going on in a bass fishing tournament that makes people so happy about participating in these events so enthusiastically? There really are a plethora of reasons for why they are fun, and for those who have never been in one, no words can really describe the excitement in a closely run tournament. A tournament is actually a competition with cash, prizes and a lot of excitement. More than the money, it is the fierce competition that gives an unparalleled shot of adrenalin.

Bass fishing tournament – a million dollar industry

The fishing tournaments all over the world belong to a multi-billion industry; the bass fishing tournament being one of the popular fishing events the world over constitutes as a major percentage of that industry. For the organizers this event is a money spinner; for the participants it is paradise on earth, where one can enjoy their favorite pass time and get paid for it as well. Of course, there are competitions of who can fish more, or the biggest or largest and so on, but at the end of the day most of the fun is from the game itself and not the competition.

Being a winner in the bass fishing tournament

In order to be amongst the winners in the tournament (where you have both the money and the fun) you will need to be fast in orienting yourself in the location of the tournament. The faster you will familiarize yourself with the fishing spot the better would be your chances to catch the best fish. Remember the bass always needs three main things to survive: (i) cover, (ii) oxygen and (iii) food not necessarily in this order. You will have to find out the approximate location of the fish in the pre-fishing period of the tournament fast enough and then make your game plan. In case it is possible, fly over the area. It is extremely easy to spot the right location on the water from air.

The game plan in a bass fishing tournament

All tournament participants have to put together a game plan. Be careful to keep the second spots close to the primary spot so you will not loose too much time cavorting around for a better spot. Stick to the game plan as this is what differentiates the amateurs from the professional fishermen. If you need a few good tips in the best location for fish ask the locals or observe them closely. They will lead you to exceptionally good places that you never knew existed. In case the locals are mum, then try to eat in the local spots and chances are that you will sooner than later overhear someone speaking about “that great spot”.

Nickel Strings

All Strung Out on What Guitar Strings to Use?

How much difference is there in the specialized manufacturing techniques and materials used when each string manufacturing company claims that theirs is the best way to make strings? Check out these three brands out of about a thousand examples of available strings.

#1. Ernie Ball Slinky Acoustic Guitar Strings: feature patented coated Titanium RPS Technology that resists rust and grime for bright and powerful tone time after time.
Ernie Ball’s titanium coated Slinky Acoustic strings are stronger and longer-lasting than traditional strings-either coated and uncoated strings. That’s thanks in part to an exclusive protective coating on both the wrap wire and the plain strings as well as a patented winding of titanium wire around the lock twist of the ball end. Staying true to Ernie Ball’s heritage of superb craftsmanship and sound quality, Slinky Acoustic Guitar Strings are made with the finest and freshest raw materials, resulting in a crisp ringing sound with pleasing overtones.
Enhancing the inherent string quality and freshness is Ernie Ball’s new string packaging-the company’s first new string packaging concept in more than 45 years. Produced and now hermetically sealed into their packages. Slinky Acoustic strings are exposed to minimal moisture and humidity from factory to retailer-insuring that all Ernie Ball strings are as fresh upon opening as they were the day they were made.

#2. Pure Blues electric guitar strings from DR Strings: are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, roundwound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a guitar string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing music from rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core give Pure Blues strings a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage electric guitar string. Sounds great on any guitar!
Tite-Fit round-wound nickel-plated electric guitar strings from DR are designed to be great all-around strings. They are available in a wide range of gauges. Based upon a round core, the construction techniques for DR Tite-Fit electrics are venerable. However, the core wire and wrap wire in DR’s are the latest, most advanced, and expensive metals available. For flexibility, for tone, for long life; for rock, blues, heavy metal, jazz. Tite-Fits are an incredible all-around string.

Note: There is a growing body of evidence that nickel dust may be hazardous to your health. It really does not bother me since I use a nickel string.

#3. Martin Bronze acoustic guitar strings: are made from 80/20 composition alloy to give brilliance, clarity, and longevity of sound. The bronze winding is ideally suited for making strings that have deep, rich basses and clear, bright trebles.

Advise:

Stronger, longer lasting, better sounding, better packaging what the xx!o?? So who am I to determine what strings are best for you? I can’t and won’t. Unless you bring your guitar closer to the phone so I can hear you, I am at a disadvantage.(Joke) This is confusing, isn’t it?

Realistically, string choice becomes very personal at some point, for example, when you find the right strings. then you will have a brand to swear by.

Bass guitar players and electric guitar players have radically different ideas on strings, as do acoustic guitar players and electric guitar players. Everybody has an opinion.

Simply put, it is a real enigma when you consider the volume of options. Consider this also, what gauge of string suits you best? For example strings come in different gauges or thickness of wire. Some are quite heavy, like bridge support wire and some are very lite gauge for string bending sissies like me.

One of the best strategies for choosing a string is to buy several sets of brands and types and go to town. It is cheap, fun and a good way to improve your string changing skills. Real world experience tells us that at least on electric guitars, most strings lose their brightness after about 45 minutes to an hour of hard playing. It’s true. none of them really last longer.
Bass players and acoustic strings last longer, depending on how much you play.

Incidentally, the three company’s that were chosen to use for comparison purposes make some of the strings I use and consider to be the best. Don’t take my word for it, buy some strings and have some fun.

Enjoy.

Replacement Pickguard

Questions about modifying a stratocaster?

I have a Fender MIM strat and want to swap the pickguard out of it. I have a replacement loaded pickgaurd and need to know how to put it in. What do I need to put in the guard, a soldering iron a gun, please help. Also the new guard has a 7 way switch but the guitar has a 5 way right. Now. What do I do about the different switches? Please help! WINNER GETS 10 POINTS!

You’ll need to solder wire leads to the output jack, as well as a ground wire to the trem “claw” in the back trem well area. Regardless of the 5 or 7 way switch configurations, the available wire leads should be the same with your new pickguard as the current ones you’ll need to clip or de-solder in order to remove the orig. pickguard. So just connect the new wires the same as the old wires, paying attention that each wire runs from the same sources to the same destinations. Compare both pickguards side by side, and it will be easy to see how everything connects.
